(KMOV) – Authorities have determined a suspicious package found in downtown St. Louis Thursday morning was not an explosive.
Police say the package was discovered near a trash can outside a building at the intersection of 16th and Market streets. A robot was initially brought in to help deal with it. Bomb squad technicians then set off a controlled explosion 90 minutes later and police determined it was not a danger to the public.
Market St. at one point was shut down between 15th and 17th streets. A section of 16th St. was closed as well.
Officials say no one was allowed to leave the building during the investigation. The building houses many city offices, including municipal court. It is next to a large Post Office.
