(BaseballStL) -- In a decisive Game 5 against the Pirates, the Cardinals will stick with the hotter hands as the team attempts to keep their World Series hopes alive Wednesday.
The lineup has remained relatively unchanged through the first four games of the NLDS aside from the shortstop position. Pete Kozma will start at shortstop for the final game of the series after going 3-for-6 at the plate in Games 3 and 4.
“Defensively, there’s never been a question what Pete can do and how well of a job he’s done for us at shortstop,” Matheny said. “With that in mind, we just want to continue to try and keep that positive momentum that he has offensively.”
Daniel Descalso, who started the first two games, is hitless in eight at-bats this series.
Matheny also left struggling leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter in the No. 1 slot of the lineup. Carpenter is 1-for-15 through the first four games of the series.
