(KMOV.com) -- A man, who police say, may have been trying to shoot at other people, ended up shooting himself in the leg at an out of business hotel in Bridgeton, Missouri.
The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. on Monday at an out of business hotel in the 4500 block of North Lindbergh Avenue. Bridgeton police said a man was trying to pull a gun from a holster to shoot at other people when then gun went off. The bullet struck the man in the leg. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police remained on the scene to make sure the hotel was secure. A SWAT team from Maryland Heights was called in about two hours after the initial shooting report. Officials said the SWAT team was called as a precaution since they did not know who the shooting victim attempted to shoot at or if that person or people were armed.
The scene was cleared Tuesday morning without any further injuries.
Police have taken the shooter into custody, but did not say if he has been charged with anything. Investigators are now trying to determine how the shooting unfolded and what the circumstances were surrounding the incident.
