Snow greets the St. Louis area

(KMOV.com) -- Snow blanketed a good portion of the St. Louis area on Monday night into Tuesday morning leaving area roadways slick and treacherous.

The storm system that moved through overnight dumped snow in many areas with some areas receiving accumulations over one inch.  The Missouri and Illinois departments of transportation are urging drivers to be cautious because roadways are slick.

Multiple accidents have been reported since the snow started falling.  One accident on Watson Road in south St. Louis killed one person when a driver lost control and struck a tree.  MoDOT officials said this type of accident shows that even the smallest amount of snow can be dangerous.

The snow  moved out of the St. Louis metropolitan area around 7:00 Tuesday morning.  The snow will linger in the Metro-East into the mid morning hours.
 
Temperatures will climb through Tuesday afternoon with a high of 45 degrees.
