O'FALLON, Ill. (AP) -- Police in southern Illinois are searching for a man who allegedly drove a car off a dealership's lot as a salesman was showing him the vehicle's engine.
Charlie Meyer, owner of Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, says a salesman was showing the man the car Wednesday when he hopped behind the wheel and sped off.
He says the man had milled around the lot for a while before taking off. He had said he was waiting for a relative to arrive to look at the car.
Meyer tells the Belleville News-Democrat that nothing like this has ever happened to the dealership before.
The bright red 2007 Dodge Magnum was recovered Thursday in St. Louis, but there was no sign of the suspect.
The list price of the car is $16,900.
