GODFREY, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a southwestern Illinois woman died along with her dog in a fire at her home.
The name of the victim of the blaze early Wednesday in Godfrey was not immediately released.
Godfrey Fire Protection District Chief Ron Brooks says firefighters responding to a motorist's report of smoke and flames at the house found the victim in her bed in her smoke-filled upstairs bedroom.
She later died at an Alton hospital.
Authorities say her pet dog was found dead next to her bed.
Brooks says the blaze began on the home's first floor.
Authorities are trying to pinpoint what caused the fire.
