EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- East St. Louis' mayor says three city workers are on administrative leave as it investigates them for possible crimes and failing to follow city protocol.
The city says two of the workers are in the Tax Increment Financing Department, while the third worker is with the police department.
A statement by the city says the disciplinary action resulted from possible wrongdoing and lack of compliance with city policy and procedure.
Mayor Alvin Parks says the city council initiated an investigation that called for an audit of the city's demolition program. Parks says that review found that financial resources perhaps were misused.
Parks says the matter has been turned over to St. Clair County prosecutors.
