ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The St. Louis Preservation Board on Monday approved tearing down two of the Pevely buildings near St. Louis University.

St. Louis University wants to tear down much of the old building on South Grand near its campus to make way for an ambulatory care facility.

The board says the smoke stack and the main building with the landmark Pevely sign must stay.

There’s a grassroots effort underway to save the building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
