ROLLA, Mo. (AP) -- The students who dress in medieval costumes and spar with foam weapons are a legitimate club in the eyes of the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
The group was formed four years ago but only recently gained official student-organization status. The group calls itself the Boffer Club, a term that refers to the cushioned weapons the students use in their mock historical combat.
Missouri S&T junior Ian Smith said members might choose to be a character from a work of fantasy. He said he wants to be a lesser knight in 13th century Britain.
Tim Smith says the Boffer Club can be good place to release stress after lectures or exams.
