BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York police officer killed during a botched robbery in Brooklyn is being laid to rest in his Long Island community -- an NYPD veteran with 12 medals and more than 200 career arrests.
A funeral Mass for Peter Figoski is scheduled for Monday morning in Babylon. The 47-year-old father of four daughters who lived in nearby West Babylon is to be buried there.
The veteran NYPD officer was shot in the face last week as he entered a Brooklyn apartment.
The suspect, Lamont Pride, faces first-degree murder charges. Four other men are charged with second-degree murder.
Police say the five were trying to rob a marijuana dealer.
Before the latest charge, the main suspect was already wanted in a non-fatal shooting in North Carolina.
