(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals and left-handed reliever J.C. Romero agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday.
“Romero is a proven lefty specialist, who has been a valuable bullpen piece for winning teams throughout his career” said Cardinals’ Senior Vice President John Mozeliak. “We felt that it was important to maintain versatility and depth within our bullpen and we feel that J.C will be a solid addition.”
Romero, 35, has pitched for five teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies, during 13 seasons as a major league pitcher.
Last season, Romero was 1-0 with a 4.01 ERA in 36 games pitched.
He leads Major League left-handers in games pitched (633) from 2002-2011, while his 517 innings pitched during that time span ranks second among lefty relievers.
