(KMOV.com) -- A St. Louis County Police Officer is accused of hitting another vehicle and leaving the scene while driving his squad car.
Early Wednesday morning an off-duty officer hit a Laclede Gas truck at Lemay Ferry Road and Little Broadway in Lemay.
The officer works for the North St. Louis County precinct, but he lives near Lemay. Even though the officer was off-duty, he was in his squad car that he is allowed to take home.
St. Louis County Police do confirm there was an accident and the officer left the scene of the crash.
Police were called and a report was taken, but it’s very early in the investigation and there are still a lot of questions.
A spokesperson for the department said they are looking into what happened. They are questioning the officer and trying to determine exactly what went down.
Laclede Gas said none of their workers were injured.
Some people who live down the street from the incident were shocked to hear what happened.
“This is a law enforcement officer,” said Lemay resident Jean Profeta, “He should be held accountable. I’m pretty shocked. He should definitely be punished.”
St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch said he was aware of the incident. He did not want to go on camera.
We will stay on top of this investigation and let you know any further information.
