( – Police are searching for a suspect who stole a pickup truck after taking a victim on a wild ride Thursday afternoon.

According to police, just after 12 p.m. the suspect broke into a truck in the parking lot of the Maplewood Commons shopping center while the victim was in shopping at the business.

Upon exiting the business and walking toward his vehicle, the victim noticed his truck driving away.  The victim chased his vehicle on foot as it circled the parking lot, and when the suspect stopped, the owner jumped into the bed of his truck.

The suspect began driving north on Hanley Road and then east on Highway 40.  The victim broke out the back window of his truck and attempted efforts to stop the vehicle.

Instead, the suspect sped up on Highway 40 with the victim trapped in the bed of the vehicle.  The suspect eventually slowed the vehicle and stopped on the shoulder. He then got out and got into a fight with the owner of the truck.

Following the fight, the suspect got back into the truck and fled east on Hwy 40.

The suspect is described as a light skin black male approximately 22 years of age, about five-foot-seven weighing 140 to 150 pounds, with short dark hair in braids and no facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Police are searching for a 1992 GMC Sierra extended cab with MO Plate 1HN-375.

The vehicle is maroon in color with the front fenders and part of the front door colored white.  The hood of the vehicle is a darker burgundy color than the rest of the truck.

The rear sliding glass window is broken out.
