Former high school dance director accused of having sex with student

HUMBLE, Texas—A former dance director at Humble High School had an improper sexual relationship with one of her female students for a little over a year, according to Humble ISD police.

Amanda Michelle Feenstra, 30, is charged with improper relationship with student.

Police said Feenstra engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with the student from August 2010 to November 2011. The student, who was a member of the school’s “Wild Cadets” dance team, was 17 years old when the relationship began.

The student said one day Feenstra approached her saying she was “really attracted to her and would like to get to know her.” After that, the two of them began to spend a lot of time together.

The student said most of their sexual encounters would happen at Feenstra’s home while her husband was away, but they also occurred at the school and at various sporting events. The girl said the two of them had so many sexual encounters that she could not remember them all, according to court documents.

The teen said Feenstra told her she loved her and wanted to be with her forever, but she did not want to continue the relationship.

The lost all of her friends and felt “trapped.” She thought she would be rid of Feenstra after she finally graduated, but Feenstra began to stalk her; constantly coming by her job and calling her phone, the victim said. The teen felt she had no one to turn to so she confided in another teacher. She said she waited so long to tell because she felt embarrassed and did not want anyone to look at her in a bad way.

That teacher told the assistant principal, who then informed the head principal and authorities were notified.

Feenstra’s bond was set at $30,000.

Humble ISD released the following statement:

"Humble ISD has zero-tolerance for inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. The district works with law enforcement for the safety and welfare of all students.

Although the teacher has not been employed by the district during the past two school years, Humble ISD Police received information in recent months that launched an investigation. Information obtained from the investigation was presented to the District Attorney, resulting in the charge.

Amanda Feenstra resigned from Humble ISD in 2011. From 2009 to 2011, she was employed as the dance and drill team instructor at Humble High School."
