(BaseballStL) -- Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig could be close to making his Grapefruit League debut in the field.
Craig has been limited to designated hitter and pinch-hit appearances this spring due to soreness in his right shoulder.
"He's been throwing a little bit more and seems to be pretty excited about his arm feels," said manager Mike Matheny.
Craig batted cleanup Wednesday and served as the designated hitter for the Cardinals game against the Miami Marlins.
He reported earlier Wednesday morning that his shoulder was, "feeling better. We’re still going to take it slow. Hopefully I can get out there soon.”
Matheny refused to put a timetable or guess when Craig might take the field but indicated that how he felt about his throwing was a good sign.
