ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – News 4 is investigating reports that the Department of Justice will not file charges against former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

News 4's made several calls Tuesday to verify the information in the New York Times article.

We’ve contacted sources who are in close contact with the Department of Justice and have made calls to Governor Nixon’s office, Ferguson Mayor James Knowles’ office, Prosecutor Bob McCulloch’s office and Benjamin Crump, the attorney for the Brown family. Crump released the following statement:

"The family of Michael Brown, Jr. will wait for official word from the Justice Department regarding whether or not any charges will be filed against the police officer who shot and killed him. The family won't address speculation from anonymous sources."

News 4 will continue to follow developments and will update this story as it becomes more available.
