5 Injured in wrong way-crash on I-55

JEFFERSON COUNTY (KMOV) --  Five people were injured in an early morning crash on southbound Interstate 55 when a driver traveled the wrong direction up the southbound ramp from Highway M and struck another vehicle.

The wrong-way driver, Jaime N. Derousse, 38, Festus, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and four counts of second-degree assault.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Derousse struck the driver side of 2005 Honda Accord driven by Jacob A. Auble, 19, St. Louis. Her vehicle then struck a 2013 Ford Edge head-on driven by Trenton Knifong, 26, O'Fallon, Mo. 

Three passengers, Eric Kase, 27, Wentzville, Amy L. Knifong, 25, O'Fallon, Mo., and Megan Spinks, 24, Wentzville, received moderate injuries and were taken to St. Anthony's Medical Center by Rock Township Ambulance.

Derousse was taken to Mercy Jefferson.

All five had their seat belts on.
