ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The Silver Ballroom Pinball Club in the Bevo Mill neighborhood was the scene of a shooting Monday, now, the club’s general manager has an idea on how to make the area safer.

Late Monday night, a 34-year-old man, going by the name Joe, was shot while leaving the club in the 4300 block of Itaska. Police say two suspects shoved a gun in his face and demanded money. Joe attempted to push the gun away and flee the scene but was shot in the hand and leg, according to police.

Justin Deming, the general manager of the Silver Ballroom, told News 4 there is a vacant lot across the street from the club that would be a good spot for a local businesses. Deming feels the less vacant lots in the area the safer it will be for patrons.

“The criminal opportunists wait for people to people to go to the side streets which aren’t monitored, they’re dark,” Deming said. “I feel like it would be safer if local businesses would have the opportunity to use that lot.”

Last month police announced they would be opening a substation in the Bevo Mill neighborhood. They have not said when the substation will open.

GoFundMe page has been created to help Joe pay for medical expenses.
