(KMOV.com) – Police said the suspect who was killed in a raid on a suspected car ring in Robertsville Wednesday was wanted for stealing cars in St. Louis City, Eureka, and Jefferson County.
Authorities believe 29-year-old Michael Goelbel was among a group of people who broke into Dave Sinclair Ford in south St. Louis County on Christmas Day. Surveillance captured several men crashing through the dealership’s service entrance before they stole a pick-up truck.
“They did a lot of damage to vehicles and a lot of structure damage,” said James Sinclair with Dave Sinclair Ford. “As much time as they spent here to get that one truck when I have hundreds of trucks. They wanted that specific truck for a reason.”
St. Louis County Police are one of four departments that had been looking for Goebel because he allegedly stole cars.
“There are a couple of wanted for him from Jefferson County, St. Louis City, Eureka, and out department, all for theft of a motor vehicle,” said Shawn McGuire with St. Louis County Police.
St. Louis County detectives said they received a tip that Goebel was at a house near Robertsville. They brought extra officers because they said he had a reputation of being armed and dangerous.
