PEVELY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Three students are in custody following the burglary of an elementary school.
The suspects were caught based on surveillance video and tips that were sent to the school and police. Two are minors and have been placed in the Hillsboro juvenile detention center. Another suspect is an adult and is in the custody of Pevely police. Dunklin, Herculaneum and Pevely police all worked on the investigation.
Police were called after staff arrived at the Pevely Elementary School Thursday morning to find that four classrooms had been disturbed.
Surveillance photos show suspects, who are believed to be students, breaking into the school late Wednesday night.
Students were sent to the gym to wait while a police search was conducted to make sure there was not still someone in the building. A robo call was sent out to parents to alert parents of the situation.
According to the staff, laptop computers and 23 iPads appeared to be missing. The suspects also allegedly broke into Herculaneum High School and stole laptops from lockers.
Authorities say there is no damage to the school, but they are investigating how the suspects broke into the building.
