ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A former bus driver has been charged with the statutory rape of a St. Louis Public Schools student.
The incident allegedly occurred in 2014, but the school district was never made aware of it until News 4 contacted them Wednesday afternoon. SLPS is also unaware of which of the district's schools the victim attends.
Charles Laden Jr. is a 39-year-old man formerly employed as a bus driver by First Student Bus Company. Laden was 38-years-old when he allegedly had sex with the 15-year-old student at a University City home in April 2014.
The Cincinnati-based company First Student told News 4's Jasmine Huda that they learned of the case in July and normal practice would be to contact the school district in question.
However, that never happened and First Student is looking into the incident to see if there was a miscommunication that resulted in the district learning of the alleged incident almost nine months after it occurred.
A month after the alleged incident, Laden left his position on an unrelated matter.
Laden has now been charged with second degree statutory rape.
