EAST SAINT LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- After having their equipment stolen, the middle school wrestling team from East St. Louis was having difficulties preparing for a tournament. That is, until some generous Channel 4 viewers stepped in.
While having dinner to celebrate qualifying for a state tournament, the team had all of their gear stolen, resulting in a $1,200 loss.
The team's coach, Rashad Riley, told News 4's Sharon Reed on Monday that his team would go to the championship event even if all the kids had to share shoes or headgear.
Riley's persistence paid off when News 4 aired a segment on the team's stolen items on Monday.
Calls, emails and Facebook comments poured in asking how to help the team. Thanks to the generosity of News 4's loyal viewers, the team will be able to replace all of their stolen equipment for the upcoming state tournament.
