(KMOV.com) -- A new push to recruit women for the St. Louis technology industry and satisfy a computer programmer shortage will be supplemented by free classes and mentoring.
Launch CoderGirl was an idea by Cultivation Capital's Colleen Liebig. The venture capital firm invests in start-ups in St. Louis. Liebig said she is familiar with the shortage of experienced computer programmers and decided to organize a class to urge more women to get into the field.
The non-profit program, which aims to train and introduce women to the tech industry, begins Wednesday evening.
The program meets every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Central West End and features programming classes and free mentoring.
The Launch CoderGirl program will be held at 4240 Duncan Avenue in the Central West End. More information can be found at the Launch Code website.
