ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) -- A 30-year-old St. Charles woman faces criminal charges of having sex with her own son's 12-year-friend.
Nicole Marie Smith was charged Tuesday with felony counts of statutory rape and statutory sodomy. She remained in jail on a $75,000, cash-only bond.
The boy told police that he and Smith had sexual intercourse and oral sex multiple times in her home since April while Smith's son remained in the basement. Authorities believe the sexual relationship began when the victim was 11. Police said the boy's mother discovered texts between the two on her son's phone.
"There was expression from the suspect that she had strong emotional feelings that was in love with the child and really revealed that there was more to it than the messages," said Captain David Tiefenbrunn with St. Charles County Police.
According to court documents, Smith urged the boy to erase the texts, because she was afraid of getting caught.
Online court records don't list an attorney on the woman's behalf.
