KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- A Belleville, Illinois man is charged with attacking three people outside of a Kansas City nightclub including a popular disc jockey who stepped in to protect another woman who was being dragged by her hair.

Prosecutors have charged 25-year-old Derrick Jung with three counts of assault.

Afentra, of Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz on 96.5 FM, told her radio listeners about her Saturday night.

A night of fun out with friends quickly changed when she watched a man attack a woman outside Missie B’s near West 39th Street and Southwest Trafficway.

“He takes her, grabs her by her hair and is dragging her around,” Afentra said.

Police say Jung punched a woman in the face with a closed fist and dragged her by her hair to a sidewalk. The woman’s male friend told police Jung also punched him.

Afentra and her friend witnessed the assault. They jumped out of their car hoping to stop the attack. They took pictures of the suspect and his license plate.

They say he told them, ‘Go ahead the car is a rental’ and that it could never be traced back to him.

“He was very cocky, very arrogant. He was willing to pose in front of the license plate,” Afentra said. “I think that angered him. Initially he was showing arrogance but that’s when he hit me.”

Soon Afentra says she was fighting to get the man off of her. She used her car keys to defend herself.

“Next thing I know he basically sucker punched me,” Afentra said. “He was dragging me by my hair.”

Within minutes after the assault, police used license plate information to track down the rental car near 39th Street and Roanoke Road. Officers arrested Jung.

According to St. Clair County Illinois court records, in 2011 prosecutors charged Jung with two counts of domestic battery. An order of protection was also filed that same year.

“I refuse to let him take mine or another woman’s power away,” Afentra said.

She says if she had to do it all over again she would step in because it was the right thing to do.

“I’m glad we took his photo. I’m glad we took his license plate,” Afentra said. “I’m glad we helped police. I’m glad he got off the streets before he could hurt or kill someone.”

Afentra says she spoke about the topic on her radio show and shared her story with KCTV5 News to hopefully help women who may be victims of domestic violence or abuse.
