Drunk driver pleas guilty for 2015 fatal head-on accident in Monroe Co., police say

MONROE COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Authorities say a Red Bud, Illinois woman who hit and killed two young women after a night of drinking in 2015 has decided to change her plea to guilty.
Two women were killed and two others were seriously injured in an accident that happened on Highway 159 in Monroe County, Illinois on January 10, 2015.
Police say a Chevy Aveo driven by 21-year-old Crystal Steinheimer, of Redbud, Ill. crossed the center lane and struck another vehicle, driven by Abigail Liefer, 20, of Ruma, head-on.
Leifer and one-of-two passengers in her vehicle, 21-year-old Hannah Porter, were killed as a result of the accident. The other passenger of the vehicle, a 21-year-old woman from Red Bud was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Steinheimer was transported to a St. Louis hospital in serious condition.
According to police, Steinheimer was underage at the time of the accident. Police say she had a blood alcohol level of .179.
Steinheimer's sentencing will be in July.
