NASHVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- The southern Illinois town of Nashville will soon say farewell to three family members killed in a Kentucky plane crash that a 7-year-old girl survived.
A four-hour visitation was scheduled Thursday in Nashville’s middle-school gymnasium for 48-year-old Marty Gutzler, 46-year-old wife Kim Gutzler and their 9-year-old daughter, Piper. Private services were planned Friday.
The Gutzlers were killed along with 14-year-old relative Sierra Wilder when the small plane piloted by Marty Gutzler crashed on Jan. 2. The family was returning from a Florida vacation.
The elder Gutzlers’ other daughter, Sailor, survived and managed to trek a mile to a house where a man summoned authorities for her.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
Nashville is 50 miles east of St. Louis.
