Attempted robbery suspect shot inside South City Walgreens; facing charges

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – An attempted robbery suspect was urgently transported to a local hospital after he was shot inside a South City Walgreens Wednesday morning.

Police say 31-year-old David Cotner first attempted to rob the Kaiser’s Grand Mart in the 5000 block of South Grand, when he did not succeed he left the store and was followed by the owner of the mart. After leaving Kaiser’s Grand Mart, Cotner attempted to rob a Walgreens in the 5550 block of South Grand.

The owner of Kaiser’s Grand Mart saw Cotner announce a robbery and display what appeared to be a firearm inside the Walgreens. The Kaiser’s Grand Mart owner then shot the Cotner once in the upper should.

Police say the gun the Cotner pointed at the owner of the mart appears to be a toy gun.

Cotner is currently listed in stable condition and has been charged with first degree attempted robbery and attempted stealing from a person. He has also been charged with first degree robbery and armed criminal action for allegedly robbing a Family Dollar store on January 5.
