ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A federal judge in St. Louis is considering whether to extend an order requiring Missouri law enforcement to give protesters a warning and reasonable chance to disperse before using tear gas.

U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson granted the temporary injunction last month as part of a lawsuit brought by several people who have demonstrated at area protests over the Aug. 9 killing of Michael Brown. Brown was a black 18-year-old who was killed by a white police officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson following a scuffle.

A grand jury ruled in November that the officer, who has since resigned, will not face criminal charges.

Jackson on Tuesday is considering whether to extend her order, which only applies to law enforcement in Missouri.
