DUPO, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Chuck Carroll, rushed into a burning home in Dupo to save his neighbor.

"I'm happy that I did what I had to do to save other people's lives," said Carroll. "If that ever occurred with me, hopefully someone would do the same for me."

Carroll saw that his neighbor's home was on fire from inside his house. He had his wife call 911 while he entered the burning home on Dale Drive.

"I ran to the house, knocked on the door and nobody answered. So I kicked the door in, the guy was asleep on the couch," said Carroll. "He ran back in there to grab something and I was like 'come on, let's go, let's go, let's go.'"

No one was injured in the fire, but the fire did destroy the back of the home.

Officials say the fire started in a detached garage and spread to the rear of the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
