( – Police said fake cashier’s checks are posing a threat in Lincoln County.

The sheriff’s office said a resident fell victim to the criminal when making a deal to sell their car on Craigslist. Investigators said the criminal gave the car owner a cashier’s check for $5900 for a US Bank branch.

Investigators are trying to find Randall Scott Hinton. He has allegedly been going under the name Eric Panis, and there is a chance he may be using other names. Investigators also said he has addresses listed in several places in Missouri and even in Florida, making it difficult to locate him.

“The checks he is using are so real that [it is evident] that he has been doing this for some time. He has mastered the craft, and that’s why we’re looking to get him into custody,” said the sheriff’s office.

Several banks in the area said that if you have any doubt about a cashier’s check, immediately contact the bank that issued it. One bank even said not to bother calling the phone number on the check. If it is a counterfeit check, you may be speaking with the criminal’s accomplice.

Hinton has a lengthy criminal history. He has been in and out of the Lincoln County jail several times.

If you know where he is, you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (636) 528-8546.
