(KMOV) -- De Soto police have charged two people in connection with the assault of a woman in the 800 block of North 3rd Street.

Jacob Lee Kelley, 27, of De Soto, and Melinda Warden, 28, of De Soto, were charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.

Police say witnesses reported Kelly hit Christina Goebel, 33, of De Soto, in the head with a baseball bat during a dispute.

Investigators said t he confrontation between the neighbors was over a trash can.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition with potentially life threatening injuries.

Kelley and Warden are being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
