(BaseballStL) -- The Cardinals were unable to score any more runs off AJ Burnett, who threw a one run complete game as the Phillies won the second game of the series.
Burnett got the Cardinals to groundout 15 times through nine, including two double plays and stranded seven runners in the 5-1 victory over the Redbirds.

Jaime Garcia continued his struggles in the sixth inning giving up a homer and a double before being lifted by manager Mike Matheny.
Marlon Byrd jacked his 12th homer of the season a few rows up into the left field stands to extend the Phillies lead to 3-1. For the second time in the game, the umpires ruled fan interference on a ball from Dominic Brown for a double.
The Phillies plated another run as Seth Maness relieved Garcia, a single John Mayberry. A sacrifice fly from Jimmy Rollins scored Mayberry to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead.

With his pitch count increasing to 65 after the fourth inning, Jaime Garcia allowed a lead-off double that came back to bite him as the Phillies starter, AJ Burnett, helped his own cause with an RBI.
After John Mayberry's double, Matt Adams made a nifty play at first robbing Cody Asche of a base hit, but the Phillies wouldn't be denied as Burnett smacked a double over Jon Jay's head to wall in center to score Mayberry.
Then the next, Jimmy Rollins, extended his hit streak to 14 games with an RBI to score Burnett that was called a ground rule double after a fan touched the ball along the left field line, putting the Phillies up by two.
Garcia gave a free pass to Carlos Ruiz, giving the Phillies runners on first and second with one out as Chase Utley stepped into the box. But Utley fouled out to Matt Carpenter to bring in St. Louis-native Ryan Howard. But Howard became Garcia's seventh strike out victim of the night.

After a 50 minute rain delay, it took the Cardinals almost another hour to break out the first run of the game.
With two outs, AJ Burnett hit Matt Carpenter that Jon Jay followed with a single into center that allowed Carpenter to go first to third. Matt Holliday made Burnett pay by stroking a single back into center to give the Redbirds a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Jaime Garcia has thrown 52 pitches through three innings, but has not allowed a runner to reach third base with four strike outs.
