A Baltimore police officer is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly cut the throat of a dog that had already been subdued.
It all happened Saturday when the 7-year-old dog named Nayla somehow escaped from her home.
When officers responded, they initially thought the dog was a stray who bit a woman. The woman’s injuries were superficial.
“Wave no words to describe this. To say that we’re appalled at the allegations, I think, is an understatement,” said deputy police commissioner Jerry Rodriguez.
Police say while this incident remains under investigation, there is no indication the dog tried to attack the officer before killing it.
