(KMOV.com) – A St. Charles has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for shooting and killing her boyfriend in a Festus neighborhood in June 2013.

Makenzie Halinski, 21, was drinking and smoking pot at a home in the 400 block of S. 5th St. on June 23, 2013 when she shot 20-year-old Cole Campbell. Paramedics tried to treat him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halinski was arrested and told police Campbell told her to pull the trigger because the safety was on.

 

Her sentencing is scheduled for Aug.
