(KMOV.com) – Many participants on the Komen Race for the Cure told News 4 they received tickets for parking in a metered space in downtown St. Louis Saturday.
Dozens parked in meter spaces but did not feed the meter. The St. Louis Treasurer's Office told News 4 it ended a pilot program where drivers could park for free in metered spaces on Saturday.
“While we believe the Komen Race for the Cure is a wonderful cause, there are events and races hosted in the city every weekend to support all other worthwhile causes and charities. If we offered free metered parking for one event, we would have to offer it for all,” the St. Louis Treasurer’s Office said in a statement.
Representatives from the Race for the Cure told News 4 they hand out maps of places to park, which includes information on parking fees.
