Tower Grove Heights neighborhood on edge after resident carjacked, beaten

(KMOV) -- Many residents in the Tower Grove Heights neighborhood have concerns after a male resident was badly beaten during a carjacking.
Police say it happened in the 3700 block of Juanita. Police say the 34-year-old male victim was backing his car into his garage; when he got out of the car two unknown men approached him. The two men punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground, then stole the man’s car. The victim was treated for cuts to his face at the scene.
“I was very concerned obviously because I know there are a lot of younger students living here, some older people that are retired that maybe don't have someone checking on them all the time,” said Caroline Newman, a Tower Grove Heights resident. “So it's just a concern for people in the community.”
Police have not made any arrests in the case.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Chief Communications Officer for the Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association, Kelly Stout, said, "We take this most recent incident, and all criminal actions that happen in our neighborhood, very seriously. Our thoughts are with our neighbor and his family at this time and we are confident that the community has rallied around them with personal support and care both publicly and privately. The Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association works closely with local law enforcement and government officials to take preventative measures wherever possible, connect residents with resources and encourage neighborhood participation in the Tower Grove Neighborhoods CDC NOM meetings. "
A regularly schedule neighborhood meeting is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Oakhill Community Corp. Many residents plan to attend to voice their concerns.
