(KMOV.com) – St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told News 4 an influx of new businesses is big reason why crime has dropped dramatically since 2006.
Dotson said crime is down 50 percent from 2006. Dotson attributes it to new businesses such as Ballpark Village and regeneration in older areas of the city.
“You have to think about crime being a regional issue and if the good upstanding people the 40,000 plus that go a ball game or the people who go to Scottrade Center for concerts, it is positive people and I am not seeing any of the wrong people, I am seeing positive numbers,” Dotson said.
Dotson also said police strategy has been successful.
“Despite what people are hearing or their perception of the city, our strategy is working,” Dotson said.
Dotson told News 4 he believes the city as more work to do to bring crime down.
