EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois woman is accused of drunkenly causing a traffic crash that killed a passenger in her car.
Madison County prosecutors on Wednesday charged 23-year-old Brittney Butler of Wood River with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities say 35-year-old Jeffrey Davis of Edwardsville was killed Oct. 22 when the car driven by Butler hit a trash truck from behind on Illinois Route 143 near Edwardsville. The truck's driver was not injured.
A spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office says Butler was charged with a previous DUI in 2007 but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving.
A message left Thursday at Butler's home was not immediately returned. It was not immediately clear if she has retained an attorney.
