(KMOV)-- A man has been charged after allegedly robbing an armored car in South City.

Dedrick Edwards, 45, of the 4900 block of Pernod was charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

The robbery occurred around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Shop 'n Save in the 4600 block of Chippewa.

Edwards was taken into custody a little over two hours later in the 4900 block of Pernod.

Authorities said two male employees of Garda Cash Logistics pulled up outside the grocery store. One employee went inside, and one stayed in the vehicle.

Police said the employee was returning to the armored car with two bags of money and checks when Edwards allegedly approached him, displayed a gun, and demanded the money. Edwards took the bags and fled on foot.

One of the Garda employees shot Edwards as he ran away, but missed.

Police would not say what it was, but did say that Edwards left behind some evidence that helped authorities catch him a short time later.
