Some Foristell residents frustrated with proposed increase in sewer bill

(KMOV)-- Some homeowners in Foristell could see a major increase in their sewer bills. Residents called News 4 for help because they're being punished for something that's out of their control.

Their sewer company, EMC of St. Charles, sent a letter detailing a proposed 400% increase in their monthly sewer bill.

Homeowners in Jaxson Estates are used to paying a $30 a month for sewer services. The proposed rate is $150. That's an additional $120 every month.

These homeowners were having a lot of trouble getting a personal explanation from EMC, so News 4 made some calls. We were routed to EMC's parent company in New Jersey.

Spokeswoman Denise Free told News 4 the neighborhood's sewage treatment facility was built for way more homes. She passed along a phone number for EMC customers with financial concerns, but no solutions for keeping costs down.

There is no date for the mandatory public meeting before the Missouri Public Service Commission votes on the proposed increase. This process could take anywhere from six to eight months.
