(KMOV)-- A Metro East man has been charged with soliciting a child through Facebook.
Roy Browne, 28, was charged with two counts of solicitation of a child.
Police said Browne started texting a young boy. He was very aggressive and wouldn't take no for an answer. Police said if your kids have personal information like a phone number posted on Facebook, this is what can happen.
Browne went to local schools in Columbia, Illinois. Police said they were aware of him in the community, because some parents had complained of him hanging around kids at the library. He lived right across the street. Browne is not a registered sex offender, but beyond that police would not discuss any criminal history.
Police conducted an undercover operation, posing as the teens, and arrested Browne when he showed up at the Columbia library.
Browne had 1,500 Facebook friends and was searching for underage boys. Police Chief Joe Edwards said parents throughout the region should check their children's Facebook pages to see if Browne is a friend. If they find there's been contact, they should call the Columbia police at 618-281-5151.
