(KMOV) – Authorities in Madison County, Illinois are investigating a robbery that led to an officer-involved shooting.
It all started around 4:00 a.m. on Monday. That's when Alton Police received a 911 call from the desk clerk at the Holiday Inn on Homer Adams Parkway. The clerk told authorities that the hotel had just been robbed.
According to Alton Police, a 52-year-old woman came into the hotel and claimed to have a gun, but never actually displayed a weapon.
The suspect left the hotel in a Ford Taurus. Authorities spotted the suspect's vehicle five blocks from the hotel.
The woman then led police on a 20-minute pursuit through Alton.
Authorities say the woman rammed her vehicle into two police cruisers before she was boxed in at Lincoln Ave. and Salu St.
That's when police say she rammed another police vehicle and then drove her car in the direction of an Alton police officer.
The officer opened fire, hitting the suspect. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer was not injured in the incident. He is a 12-year veteran and has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
