Three SIU players suspended for 3 games

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Three Southern Illinois University basketball players have been suspended for allegedly violating team rules and committing battery.

Juniors Mykel Cleveland and Troy Long, and sophomore Gene Teague will be suspended for three games over an incident Thursday.

Athletics director Mario Moccia says he's "extremely disappointed" in the players' actions. He says no details of the incident will be released until after a review by the university judicial process.

The victim of the alleged battery was a 20-year-old male student. Police reports say he didn't require medical attention. The players received municipal citations for battery.

Cleveland and Teague are both starters. They missed the team's game Saturday, when SIU fell to Bradley 69-66.
