BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Police in the southern Illinois city of Belleville say a 30-year-old inmate whose father died while he was in custody returned from his two-day funeral furlough just as he promised.
The only problem is that he had heroin on him when he arrived.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Christopher Koch of Belleville was being held on drug charges on $70,000 bail when his father passed away. A judge granted him a furlough to attend the funeral.
Koch returned to custody Wednesday, and corrections officers say they found heroin on him.
St. Clair County prosecutors approved new drug charges against Koch Friday, and $250,000 was added to his bail.
It was not immediately clear who Koch is being represented by.
