(KMOV) – A 47-year-old woman endured a long night of torture allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.
Freddie Ross of East Alton is accused of tying his girlfriend up and beating her with a baseball bat. Ross is now charged with attempted first degree murder.
This story of domestic violence is so severe police say doctors are surprised the victim is alive.
The woman endured 10 hours of torture, officials say. They also say that Ross is no stranger to the law. He was recently paroled after spending 18 years in a Michigan prison for attempted murder.
The victim was eventually able to break free from her attacker and ran to the neighbor’s house to call police. One witness says the victim had blood running down her face, and her t-shirt was soaked in blood.
In a 911 call, the victim says she was lying in her bed asleep when Ross reportedly came in with a bat, tied her up with duct tape and telephone wire and beat her.
Sergeant Brian Archer with the East Alton Police Department says that Ross set up a baby monitor so that he could monitor the woman.
While the woman was being tortured, the suspect would reportedly turn on the gas and say things like “we’ll die together.”
Police describe Ross as “calculating” and “cold.” The incident was so bad, police say, that he broke the bat over her head.
Ross is in the Madison County Jail without bond.
