Man who escaped jail sought in northeast Missouri

PALMYRA, Mo. (AP) -- Authorities are searching for a northeast Missouri jail inmate who climbed through a vent and jumped off the jail roof into a snow drift to escape.
The Hannibal Courier-Post reports that 22-yer-old Grant Allen Baker of Hannibal was accounted for at 11 p.m. Wednesday inside the Marion County Jail in Palmyra, but was discovered missing at 3 a.m. Thursday.
Sheriff Jimmy Shinn says Baker got into a boiler room where he removed vents and got onto the roof. From there, he jumped 15 feet into a snow drift, got into a red Jeep Cherokee with a woman and two children and headed south on U.S. 61.
Baker was being held on parole violations.
