JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is releasing an additional $10 million in transportation aid that had been withheld from school districts.

Nixon cited improving state revenues Thursday as a reason for providing schools the additional money.

When Missouri's budget year began last July, the governor cut $70 million of the $153 million that had been appropriated by lawmakers for school busing. Nixon said at the time that it was necessary to keep the budget in balance because tax revenues were likely to fall short of projections.

Nixon restored $7.5 million of school busing aid last month. The additional $10 million came as the state reported Thursday that its net general revenues in January were up 16 percent compared to January 2010.
