(KMOV) -- A long-time Metro bus driver has been fired after being involved in an accident that killed a 60-year-old woman near Forest Park.

It happened around 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Forest Park Expressway and DeBaliviere Ave.

Authorities say Rosalind D. Smith got off the bus at the Forest Park/DeBaliviere stop. Smith was attempting to cross the street but it is unclear at this point if she fell or bent down causing her to go unnoticed by the bus driver.

The driver did not see anyone in front of the bus and proceeded to drive forward. Smith was struck but neither the driver nor the passengers on the bus realized anyone had been hit. The driver was notified and the bus then stopped.

Smith was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

No one on the bus was hurt.

The 62-year-old bus driver has been fired by Metro and tested for drugs and alcohol, which is a standard policy for drivers when someone is killed. He had been a driver for Metro for 23 years.
