MIAMI, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 have reopened from Tulsa to the Missouri state line, but stranded vehicles still on the roadway are keeping the westbound lanes closed.
OTA spokesman Jack Damrill said Wednesday motorists stuck after a blizzard have been rescued from the 65-mile stretch of highway. A path has been cleared for eastbound traffic, but clearing the westbound lanes is taking longer.
The cars, trucks and tractor-trailer rigs became stranded during a tremendous blizzard that dumped up to 20 inches of snow, ice and sleet on the state.
